Enhancing Community Safety and Reliability: ISO55001:2014 Preparedness Assessment for Transdev Sydney Ferries

At SAS Asset Management, we conducted an ISO55001:2014 preparedness assessment for Transdev Sydney Ferries (TDSF) to evaluate their asset management system and ensure compliance ahead of the upcoming annual audit. This rigorous assessment aimed to enhance community safety, operational readiness, and service reliability, directly impacting the passengers' daily experience.

Key Objectives of the Audit

Our primary objectives were to:

  • Assess the robustness of TDSF’s asset management system.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of operational readiness and reliability.
  • Identify and address documentation challenges.
  • Recommend updates to key documents and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO55001:2014 standards.

How We Conducted the Assessment

The audit involved a comprehensive review of TDSF’s operations and asset management system (AMS) compliance. We sampled data to check the application of maintenance plans and materials management. Despite encountering usability challenges in documentation, we found that TDSF effectively uses Hexagon's enterprise asset management system and robust risk management processes. These practices have led to significant operational improvements, including influencing fleet renewals and utilising shipyard facilities.

Benefits for Transdev Sydney Ferries

  • Improved Community Safety and Reliability: Enhanced operational readiness and risk management lead to more reliable and safer ferry services.
  • Efficient Maintenance Management: Better maintenance and materials management reduce service interruptions.
  • Clearer Documentation: Improved and user-friendly documentation processes.
  • Increased Compliance: Adherence to ISO55001:2014 standards ensures best practices in asset management.
  • Stronger Community Trust: Reliable services boost public confidence in the ferry system.
  • Resilient Operations: Strengthened position in the public transport sector ensures long-term community benefits.

Community Impact

The community benefits significantly from these improvements. Enhanced safety and reliability mean fewer delays and a smoother commute for passengers. With better-maintained ferries and efficient risk management, the public can trust in the reliability of their transport system. These enhancements contribute to a more connected and resilient Sydney, positively impacting the quality of life for its residents.
